Aetna Leaves the ACA marketplace
Exit Date: Aetna will no longer offer ACA (Affordable Care Act) marketplace health plans starting January 1, 2026.
Who’s Affected: Anyone currently enrolled in an Aetna ACA plan will need to choose a new carrier during Open Enrollment for 2026 (which begins November 1, 2025).
Plans Change Every Year
Premiums, deductibles, copays, and provider networks can all change annually — even if your insurance company stays the same.
Income Changes Can Affect Your Plan
If your income or household size changes, your eligibility for subsidies may shift. Reporting early helps you avoid tax surprises.
Subsidies Continue for Most
The enhanced premium tax credits (originally from the American Rescue Plan and extended through 2025) may change. Congress may act again — but if not, some may see reduced subsidies in 2026.
More Carriers, More Choices
Some markets will see new insurance companies enter, offering competitive pricing and benefits to replace those leaving (like Aetna)
More Plan Transparency
Starting 2026, insurers are required to provide clearer info on network providers and covered prescriptions, making comparisons easier.
